IP-Subnet-Based Nearby User Discovery
We provide a user discovery and messaging mechanism based on IP addresses and /24 subnets, helping you find the people closest to you on the network—without relying on complex social graphs.
Once this feature is enabled, users sharing the same IP or the same /24 subnet can leave messages and interact with each other, revealing potential real-world or infrastructural connections, such as:
- 🚗 Carpool / Shared Ride Partners: Discover potential carpool partners and learn about carpool availability and real usage experiences
- 🖥 Users of the Same Server Brand or Data Center: Quickly identify users sharing the same network environment or service provider
- 🏘 Neighbors in the Same Residential or Office Area: Users behind the same LAN or broadband gateway are more likely to build local connections
Design Principles
- Weak-Tie Connections: No need to follow or add friends—communication starts with minimal friction
- Dual Proximity: Network + Geography: IP subnets naturally reflect both network and physical closeness
- Decentralized Discovery: No location uploads required, reducing privacy exposure risks
Use Cases
- Social needs around co-living, carpooling, and temporary collaboration
- Experience sharing among cloud server, VPS, and IDC users
- Information exchange within LANs, residential communities, or office parks
- Understanding the cleanliness, stability, and real-world performance of machines associated with specific IPs
This feature is more like a network bulletin board, allowing users within the same network environment to meet naturally and communicate on demand, rather than being forcibly matched by algorithms.
